“By Allah, I then fell down unconscious.”

August 22, 2011 in Character of a Muslim, General Islam, Islamic History

“By Allah, I then fell down unconscious.”

Saleh al-Mizee said:

“In the middle of the day, I entered the graveyard. I looked at the graves and they were like a group of silent people.
I said,
‘How perfect Allah is! Who will bring you back to life and resurrect you after a long period of decomposition?’
A caller called out to me from behind those holes (in the ground), saying:
‘O Saleh:

"And among His Signs is that the heaven and the earth stand by His Command, then afterwards when He will call you by single call, behold, you will come out from the earth (i.e from your graves for reckoning and recompense)." (Quran: Surah Rum 30:25)

Saleh said :
“By Allah, I then fell down unconscious.”

How To Be An Outstanding Husband by Shaykh Muhammad AlShareef

July 7, 2011 in Character of a Muslim, Marriage

Sheikh Muhammad AlShareef shares with his listeners many pearls of wisdom in this lecture. The target audience is, of course, Muslim brothers. But this lecture is incredibly beneficial for sisters as well. There is a great deal of insight that both husbands and wives can benefit from. It is comprised of a series of techniques that the Sheikh offers to husbands (and future husbands) on how to please one’s wife and insha’Allah become an ideal husband. The techniques offered are all-encompassing, and the main source of evidence for these techniques is the seerah of Rasoolallah (s).

Many touching and heart-warming ahadith are mentioned about the Prophet’s (s) interactions with his wives, with many priceless lessons to be learned from these.

An Anti-dote to Consumerism Culture

June 17, 2011 in Character of a Muslim

One of the biggest enemies of productivity in our world today is the comfortable consumerism culture that we’re living in.

consumerismEverything is within reach and we’re constantly looking for the latest, quickest, or smallest! Each of us (except whom Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) had mercy upon) is literally ‘killing’ themselves running after acquiring more and more of today’s world and what’s sad about this is that we, as Muslims, should know better.

History seems to repeat itself, for the Muslim Ummah did indulge in such consumerism more than 1,000 years ago, during the Golden Age of the Islamic civilisation. The success of the expanding empire brought new riches unknown to the early Muslims which started corrupting the Muslims and making them forget their true purpose. True to the words of the Prophet (Peace be upon him), this consumerism destroyed us. In a hadeeth, the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said: By Allah, it is not the poverty about which I fear in regard to you but I am afraid in your case that (the worldly) riches may be given to you as were given to those who had gone before you and you begin to vie with one another for them as they vied for them. And these may destroy you as these destroyed them. (Sahih Muslim, Book #042, Hadith #7065).

Book Review: The Ideal Muslimah by Muhammad Ali Al-Hashimi

ideal muslimah

The Ideal Muslimah: The true Islamic personality of the Muslim woman as defined in the Qur’an and Sunnah.

Author: Muhammad Ali Al-Hashimi translated by Nasiruddin Al-Khattab.

I’ve always found that buying presents for women is extremely easy, and now I have another suggestion to add to the list of recommended gifts – the book: ‘The Ideal Muslimah’. I discovered it lying on my shelf some months after my wedding and I must say that this is probably the best wedding present I’ve ever received.

Written by Dr Muhammad Ali Al-Hashimi, The Ideal Muslimah also has a male counterpart – The Ideal Muslim which although I haven’t read, I would assume will make an equally beneficial read and an equally valuable gift!

Short Story – A Brother Like That

May 19, 2011 in Character of a Muslim, Purification of the heart

Shuaib received an automobile from his brother as an Eid present. On Eid day when Shuaib came out of his house, a street urchin was walking around the shiny new car, admiring it. “Is this your car, Uncle?” he asked. Shuaib nodded. “My brother gave it to me for Eid.” The boy was astounded.

“You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn’t cost you nothing? Boy, I wish…” He hesitated. Of course Shuaib knew what he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the lad said jarred Shuaib all the way down to his heels. “I wish,” the boy went on, “that I could be a brother like that.” Shuaib looked at the boy in astonishment, then impulsively he added, “Would you like to take a ride in my automobile?” “Oh yes, I’d love that.”

Keep Only a Few Friends

May 12, 2011 in Character of a Muslim, Technology

By Sufyaan Ath-Thawri (RA): A Mountain of Knowledge & the Leader of Believers in Hadeeth

Sufyaan ath-Thawri (may Allah have mercy on him) said that one foolishly compromised one’s religion when one kept too many friends. Having too many acquaintances diverts one from one’s duty towards one’s Lord, for a person who has many friends is always busy socializing with them and fulfilling their rights over him; so he becomes preoccupied with people when he really should be preoccupied with his religious duties. The ill-effects of being too gregarious can last well beyond a social gathering. Sufyaan said, “I might meet a brother and as a result, remain heedless (of what I should be doing) for an entire month.”

A Concise Legacy by Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen

April 14, 2011 in Character of a Muslim

Indeed all praise is for Allah. We praise Him, we seek His help and we seek forgiveness from Him. And we seek refuge in Allah from the evils within our own souls and our evil actions. Whomsoever Allah guide, then none can misguide him; and whomsoever Allah leaves to stray, then none can guide him aright. Indeed it is Allah who sent His Messenger Muhammad sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam with the Guidance and the Religion of Truth, and he conveyed this Message, fulfilled his trust, fought Jihaad as it should be fought, and he did not die except that he left his Ummah (nation) upon a clear path, its night is like its day, and no one deviates from it except that he is destroyed. And may Allah extol and send blessings of peace upon His Messenger Muhammad, and upon his Family, his Companions, and those who follow them in goodness. Then to proceed:

So on this night, Sunday the 27th of Rabee’ul-Awwal 1417H – which corresponds to the 10th of August 1996CE – I am pleased to have this opportunity to say a few words to you. I hope that Allah would bless them and that He would also bless our brothers in England; who have traveled from various places in order to here these few words on the telephone, for which they will receive – with the help of Allah – that promise which has been mentioned by the Prophet sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam when he said: “Whosoever treads a path to seek knowledge, then Allah would make easy for him a path to Paradise.”So I ask from my brothers to accept these wasaayah (legacies and sincere advices) which I hope would be of benefit to them:-
