Stages of Life

As we mature in life, our attitudes, values and character changes with age. This process takes time and most people evolve through a series of stages that can be described in five separate categories. This section outlines the characteristics of each stage.
You may actually display characteristics in several stages simultaneously, but your behavior will likely be centered in a single stage. Take a look at the characteristics in each stage and determine your primary behavior patterns. There is no right or wrong, better or worse place to be. Over time, you will notice an evolution to the next stage. You can accelerate the evolution to the next stage through prayer and remembrance of Allah (Dhikr).
Any attempt to prematurely leap to the next stage is the result of your ego wanting you to be someone you aren't.
The result of your progression through these stages will be:

- A reduced importance on material
- An increased focus on spiritual values
- Peace of mind
- A greater appreciation of life
- Improved mental and physical health
- A higher degree of patience
- A change in what is important to you
- The discovery of how to know Allah
- A vision of hope for a bright future

Stay tuned to get a closer look at 'a reduced importance on material'

Salah: Your FOCUS in the Age of Distraction

July 2, 2011 in Dhikr (Remembrance of God), Prayer

I was reading Leo Babauta’s great new eBook entitled “Focus” and came across a chapter that reminded me of Salah. The chapter talks about the importance of developing a ‘Focus Ritual’ to help a person fight daily distractions and focus on their most important tasks for the day.

Think about Salah for a moment, and the power it has to fight distractions when performed properly and full concentration. When the athan goes off, we physically get up, leave everything we do, cleanse ourselves with a purifying ritual called wudhu, walk to the nearest mosque, perform a set of pre-defined actions with full concentration and thought, then head back home feeling completely refreshed.

This happens 5 times a day at a minimum. Have you ever thought about the effect this action has in our day to day focus and for our spiritual productivity? Leo provides an interesting insight in the following passage: Read the rest of this entry →

Do I Have Faith?

May 10, 2011 in Dhikr (Remembrance of God)

I’m not sure if I know a sufficient amount about faith to give a description, or on its own enough to get anything stimulated, but Do I have faith? Yes.

Remembrance of Allah and recitation of the Quran

April 20, 2011 in Dhikr (Remembrance of God)

Remember Allah by reciting and contemplating upon His Noble Book.

Whoever recites the words, “Glory be to Allah and His is the praise,” will have a palm tree planted for him in the Garden.

THE EXCELLENCE OF THE REMEMBRANCE OF ALLAH:

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (d.728H) – rahimahullaah – wrote, “Remembrance of Allaah is to the heart what water is to fish. What happens to a fish when it is taken out of water?”  Imaam Shamsud-Deen Ibnul-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (d.751H) – rahimahullaah – wrote about nearly eighty benefits that come with the remembrance (dhikr) of Allaah in his book al-Waabilus-Sayyib. We shall quote some of them here, although we recommend the reader to refer to this book itself because of its great value. Remembrance of Allaah is sustenance for both the heart and the spirit. If the servant is deprived of it he becomes like a body which has been deprived of food.
